Here we are at Week 5 of the One Room Challenge. Madeline’s big girl room transformation is almost complete. I barely got this post ready in time and was working until the last second she was at preschool yesterday to finish up hanging things and getting photos taken.
Her room is pretty much complete now and I can’t wait to share with you the finished product next week during the reveal post. I have put so much time and thought into this space and it is one of my favorites in our home – especially since it really just seems to fit her.
I shared the painting project of Madeline’s big girl bed a couple weeks ago and today, I am sharing a little bit about her bedding and wall art.
When decorating her nursery several years ago, I chose the Brigitte quilt from Pottery Barn Kids. I can now say that purchasing a crib quilt at all is completely unnecessary because they can’t use a blanket for so long anyway and up until just a couple weeks ago Madeline was still sleeping under only a muslin blanket in her crib. Yet, it was beautiful and just what I wanted for our little girl. Girly and playful without being too baby-like.
So, when it came time to purchase her bedding I of course bought it all over again in the queen size! I just love all the different textures.
I purchased two pairs of sheets for her because we all know an extra set of sheets is so important when you have kids! I chose these with little metallic hearts and they are such a steal. I also ordered this pink set with little white bows.
This monogrammed smocked pillow was a gift from our beloved realtor and Madeline’s bed is never complete without her Bun-Bun. In fact, by the time I am finished taking these photos I’m sure her bed will be covered with the approximately sixteen stuffed animals she sleeps with every night.
I just love how her bedding turned out and it was well worth re-buying her quilt in the big girl size. I used that quilt as inspiration to make these blocks for her while I was pregnant, pulling patterns and colors from the quilt to give me ideas.
When I happened upon the same scrapbook paper recently (cleary meant to be because I made those blocks three years ago!) I picked up a couple sheets to use in her big girl room. I wasn’t sure how I planned to use them yet but knew they would probably come in handy.
I reused most of Madeline’s art although I had to rearrange it all with her new furniture placement. She loves this piece of art with the 3D butterflies that my mother in law got her when she was a baby but it seemed too small on this wall.
So, I used the scrapbook paper to make a mini gallery wall. The frames are from IKEA and were $2.99 each and it took three sheets of 0.59 scrapbook paper total so this little gallery wall cost virtually nothing but I think it grounds the space so much more. I hung everything with command picture hanging hooks (my favorite tip for decorating children’s spaces) so that I can rearrange in the future if I decide to or find a piece of art that feels more special.
Only one more week until I can share the final product with you! Check out all the work we’ve done on this room so far here:

And of course don’t forget to check out the room transformations from the other ORC participants here. There is amazing inspiration for any room in your home. I’m just dying to work on our office next year!
Happy Thursday!
Her room is coming together so beautifully! You’ve put so much heart into it too, which makes it really special!
