I am completely blown away that June is here. Time really does fly as an adult.
June used to be my favorite month as a child – that first month of freedom at the end of the school year. No homework, staying up late, and spending my days at the pool.
As an adult, it feels pretty much the same as any other month because #momlife
Madeline has been out of school for almost two weeks now and I am really enjoying the extra time with her. I was a little nervous at first because girlfriend loves to go, go, go and I wasn’t sure how in the world I would keep her entertained and stimulated enough around Connor’s naps. I’m really loving our slow mornings, though, and her staying in her pajamas all morning.
On this first month of summer, I have a few goals that I hope to accomplish amidst the chaos of having my two little ones at home.
1. Finish our playroom re-do.
A couple weeks ago I decided to move all of Madeline’s toys downstairs to Corey’s office and move his desk upstairs to the bonus room so that she would have a designated “playroom.” Our bonus space had been our favorite area to watch movies but we recently stopped spending family time in there because it had become totally overrun by toys. Combined with not being able to see Madeline upstairs when I was unloading the dishwasher, switching out the laundry, or cooking dinner we decided it wasn’t the ideal location for her play space. Since Corey travels most of the time having an entire dedicated office right now seemed like a waste of square footage. We are all liking her play space being downstairs now but I still have lots of organization to do and things to finish up.
2. Attend 4 workout classes every week.
I have been doing this for months but I can already tell how much more of a challenge it will be with Madeline home from school so I am making it an intentional goal to hold myself more accountable. When she was little I worked out at home but it works so much better for me in this phase to take everyone to the gym, drop them off in the childcare (or take Connor with me to the Mommy and Me class) and then get an hour of uninterrupted exercise.
3. Figure out how to use my Instant Pot.
After much resistance I caved and purchased an Instant Pot but I really have no clue how to use it aside making baked potatoes and hard boiled eggs. If you have any great recipes, send them my way. Using one pot for the entire meal and being able to make a meal quickly is super appealing but I have a long way to go. What are your favorite recipes? Leave some links for me in the comments if you have recipes you love.
4. Book our flights for our adults-only vacation this fall.
Corey and I are taking a big trip in the fall and we are so excited. We have secured our hotels and activities while we are there but need to book our flights. I always wait until the last minute for flights and majorly regret it when I end up paying too much. We need to pull out our itinerary and passports and get that crossed off the list!
5. Choose a highchair for Connor.
This one seems like it shouldn’t be that difficult but I’ve definitely fallen into a black hole of reading too many reviews. Does that happen to anyone else when they’re shopping online? I always think I know exactly what I want then go to purchase it, read dozens of reviews, and then completely change my mind.
With Madeline, I had this beautiful wooden high chair that looked like a real piece of furniture and that is belonged in our dining area. But that sucker was so hard to clean. In pure first child fashion, I painstakingly cleaned it every day after every meal for two years. With the second baby, I just don’t have time for that so I am planning to swap it out for an easier to clean option. Our first one was a hand me down so I really had no idea how expensive high chairs were or how many different types and features I had to choose from!
What’s on your agenda for June?
Check out Skinny Taste for some instant pot recipes! I literally use mine a few times a week. Another great one that I LOVE is this recipe https://fitfoodiefinds.com/meal-prep-carnitas-burrito-bowls/ BUT the key to making it Instant Pot versus Slowcooker is adding more OJ and lime juice. I just pour enough in so the pork is about halfway covered and cook for about 20 minutes on high pressure for 1 lb of pork!
Oh the adults only trip sounds fun! Girl, we have the $20 ikea high chair and it's perfect!
The Ikea highchair is a dream. For real. I almost bought a more expensive one and then someone talked me out of it and I'm so glad (and this is baby #1!).
