Coffee + Conversation

Happy Monday, friends.

It’s been a little quiet around here lately. I have been busy getting ready for baby boy to make his debut. Those intentions I had of not doing any more projects didn’t really pan out…but in a great way that is making me feel SO accomplished.

Today is my birthday and at the very last minute I decided to broach the subject with Corey of doing a few projects that we had been putting off, like having the downstairs trim painted, the stair risers, the bannisters, and installing crown molding in our secondary bedrooms as my “gift”. I just got it in my head that I wanted this done now and off our plate instead of in the spring as planned and once my pregnant horomones got involved we had to get moving right away.

So things have been messy and busy over here. I really didn’t know what I was getting in to or how much of a disruption these projects would be. All I could see was that finished product in my head. So our handyman finished up on Friday and I’m excited to have everything completed. It looks great and really freshened up some areas of our home that needed it and had been getting pushed off in favor of other projects – like the One Room Challenge

And bless my sweet husband for allowing me to move forward on this after I spent my entire paycheck two months ago on importing wallpaper from Canada and a chandelier for Madeline’s bedroom and then having both installed!

We also snuck away to the Ritz in Charlotte for a little staycation this weekend. It was our “babymoon” since I wasn’t able to travel as we had planned. I headed uptown mid-afternoon for a prenatal massage and some time at the spa. Then, I came back to our room where I found dessert and a little gift bag waiting on me. It had some fun pampering items for mama and a sweet little stuffed lion for baby boy. I dropped a bath bomb in the tub right away and took a nice long soak before dinner when Corey joined me.

We ate at the bar at BLT and then went up to our suite to watch a movie, relax, and sleep for a very long time before we don’t get to sleep any more! I woke up at 8:30 on Saturday morning and I can’t even remember the last time that was possible!

It was such a relaxing evening that was made possible by all of the hotel points Corey has accumulated by traveling so much this year. It was nice to reap some benefits of all that time apart and get to spend a nice night just the two of us.

We checked out and then went to brunch at Haymaker. The hostess directed us upstairs to sit down, which I thought was a little odd since she didn’t come with us but when I turned the corner at the top of the stairs I saw a whole table of my friends waiting. It was such a fun surprise for my birthday and even more shocking because Corey has never surprised me before! I usually get my birthday gifts in October because he just can’t keep them a secret anymore. Haha!

We had such a nice brunch and it was so fun to spend a little time with my closest friends before Baby Boy arrives. We headed home after brunch and Madeline and my mom had baked a cake for me while we were gone. Funfetti, of course. Madeline had proudly decorated it with the sprinkles all by herself.

Then, we spent the rest of the afternoon putting up Madeline’s tree and letting her decorate it. She got a bigger tree this year (this one, which was such a steal) and was so excited to put all of the ornaments on. We have a number of special ones and these shatterproof pink ball ornaments. It is the first decoration up in our house although I think it will be my favorite even once they are all up!

On Sunday life kind of went back to normal and we headed to Costco in the morning to stock up on coffee, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, snacks, etc. You know – all the items you want to have copious amounts of once baby arrives.

Today is my actual birthday and I am excited to spend it attending Madeline’s school Thanksgiving lunch and then sitting on the couch! I’m completely exhausted!

Happy belated birthday! Caleb has a little tree in his room too – so cute.I didn't realize how close you were to having the baby! I've been basically absent from the blog world since my little guy was born 11.5 weeks ago. EEEK, getting so excited for you!

You’ve written terrific content on this topic, which goes to show how knowledgable you are on this subject. I happen to cover about Thai-Massage on my personal blog QN6 and would appreciate some feedback. Thank you and keep posting good stuff!
