Asheville Mini Getaway

Last month Corey had two weeks off in between his last day at his old job and his first day at his new firm. It was so nice to have him home with us and the time coincided perfectly with the week of Madeline’s birthday.

The day after the party Corey and I headed to Asheville for a little one-on-one baby free time. We are so lucky to be able to get away for a few days every couple months with just the two of us, with the last time being to Charleston for my birthday in November. I really feel like this might be one of the absolute most important things we are able to do for our marriage, especially since he travels for work without me and we consequently spend a lot of time apart and it is certainly not lost on me how fortunate we are that both of our parents are able to take turns staying with Madeline.

Corey’s mom stayed with Madeline so she was in excellent care and we left during nap time and took a longer than usual route so that we could drive through the mountains. The weather was really nice (not too cold) and the views were pretty. This put us to our hotel just before sunset so we enjoyed cocktails outside on the veranda as soon as we arrived.

Then, we got dressed for dinner and enjoyed a couple glasses of wine in the great room of the Grove Park Inn, where we were staying. This hotel was just gorgeous and had two enormous fire places, making the bar and lounge area super cozy.

We headed into town and enjoyed another glass of wine and a charcuterie plate as an appetizer at Chestnut and then headed to Curate for dinner. This was SO delicious. It is a Spanish-style tapas restaurant. We’d eaten here before and loved it but it had been quite a while. We loved everything we had but the grilled pork “skirt steak” was one of the best things I have eaten in such a long time. My mouth is watering now, even remembering it.

The next day, we slept in super late and enjoyed a late breakfast at the hotel in their farm to table restaurant. This was so delicious, too. Then, we got dressed and headed in to town again to window shop and walk around.

We tried a Mediterranean restaurant for a late lunch then went back to the hotel for some spa time. The spa at the Grove Park was incredible. Corey and I really love spa resorts for when we have adult-only getaways so I feel like we have high standards and we both felt this spa was our favorite to date.

We splurged on an 80 minute massage for each of us then had a relaxing dinner at the resort’s casual restaurant afterwards.

The following morning, we woke up a little earlier and took a mini hike. We’d planned for a longer one but the weather was unfortunately not ideal. Afterwards we headed to White Duck Taco Shop for lunch then took a mini nap before heading back to the spa for our second day. It was every bit as amazing as the day before.

For our final night, we ventured out for Italian at a restaurant some locals recommended and it was so delicious. Casual, neighborhood-style is our favorite because it reminds us of New Jersey Italian so Vinnie’s did not disappoint. It was a nice, casual way to end our little getaway.

The next morning, we woke up early (we always do this our last day because we are impatient to get to Madeline) and made it home by eleven to spend the day with our girl.

Corey started his new job last week and has been traveling ever since. His flight home last Friday even got cancelled because of the storm in the northeast. Even though his old job required a lot of travel too, this is a little more than we are used to but we are all adjusting to the new schedule and I am so thankful for this extra time together before starting a new adventure for our family.

What a fun trip! We also love to do spa days when we travel together and I've found it makes me such a spa snob now. Haha! So glad y'all had some time away together!

How awesome y’all are able to get away together for a little bit sans kids! Mike and I NEED to do that more ourselves.
