Happy Bridal Talk Tuesday girls! Take a scroll down to the ticker at the bottom of the page and you’ll see that there are less than two months until the wedding!!! I am so excited! Last week, I shared my something old, something new. This week, I’d like to share my something borrowed and something blue.
Something Borrowed
These pearls belong to my mother. She is lending them to me for my wedding day to be my something borrowed. I love them so much because they are a really beautiful ivory color but also because they are very special to her. She has let me borrow them for big occasions like pageant interviews when I was young and didn’t have my own pair. What makes them the most special though, is that my mom wore them when she and my dad got married. Last night, I asked her to take a picture of her bridal portrait and text it to me so I could share it with you. Isn’t she gorgeous??
My parents were married in a rose garden. My mom is a wonderful seamstress and she made her dress. It is so perfectly her. Classic yet simple. Isn’t it so pretty? I used to love when she would let me play dress up and try it on as a little girl. I’m glad I can wear a piece of what she wore on her wedding day on my own. I tried on the pearls with my dress at my fitting this weekend and they looked fabulous!
Something Blue

My Kappa pin will be my something blue. A long time ago in another Bridal Talk Tuesday I talked about incorporating your sorority into your wedding. It is important to me to show some Kappa love on my wedding day. Kappa Kappa Gamma has been such an important part of life, as cheesy as that may sound. 🙂

Kappa Kappa Gamma’s pin is a gold key with sapphires and either diamonds or pearls. It is pinned over your heart and I’ve worn it to so many important occasions, like my college graduation for example.
Many of my closest friends I met through Kappa, including three of my bridesmaids.
Elizabeth, one of my MOH, and I at a Kappa Christmas function
My senior Kappa apartment. Left is Elizabeth, my bridesmaid
Bethany, one of my twin Kappa little sisters, and a bridesmaid
A special Kappa tradition is that all Kappa bridesmaids and close friends pin their keys underneath the bride’s dress before the ceremony so that they can be with her as she walks down the aisle. I think this is so sweet and can’t wait to do this with my bridesmaids’ keys. I’ll have my key over my heart and their keys underneath the dress. Sorority rituals like this make me a little teary eyed. I just love them. I snagged this picture from one of my sorority sister’s Facebook pages. Love, love, love.

Such a good way to incoporate your sorority. We just pin our colors into our garter.
I love how they all will put their keys in your dress. So meaningful!I'm going to wear my Mom's pearls too!
From one KKG sister to another….It is Elizabeth and me not I like you posted. Just watching your back. Your mom looked beautiful!LFGWofford, 1987PS-how much weight have you lost! Inspire us! What did you do? I think dropping three dress sizes is terrific. Good for you!
Thanks for the grammar tip! I don't always have time to proofread when writing late at night. Thanks for your "kind" words about weight loss – I lost about fifteen pounds and 1 to 2 dress sizes and its just from working out. The first picture in the pink dress was me almost at my heaviest. I've always been pretty active but gained weight when I was pulling 18 hour work and school days while finishing my masters. As far as your comment, "from one KKG sister to another" – ha! I could never imagine one of my sisters (from my chapter or any other) giving a backhanded compliment like that, especially since sororities are about loyalty and Kappas take that very seriously. Wofford doesn't have and has never ha a Kappa chapter – nice try though.
I love that you're going to wear your mother's pearls! I also love the Kappa tradition for when you get married! I can't believe you're inching closer and closer to the wedding!
I'm your newest follower and wanted to say hello! Your mother is gorgeous and it's so touching that you're wearing her pearls! I love the KKG tradition! I'm not a Kappa, but some of my closest friends are so I know you all are a great group of women!
I think it is so cute that you are incorporating sorority traditions into your wedding. And…is that the Furman bell tower? My best friend and soon to be roommate went to Furman and I loved visiting her!
What a great tradition that you have. This is such an exciting time. Your mom is lovely. What year did she get married?
what a beautiful tradition! I haven't heard of any ZTAs doing that before! Love the pearls too!
