Tuesday, friends. I hope you all had such a great Memorial Day weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed ours even though the weather wasn’t ideal. It has felt very rainforest-like in Charlotte over the last couple weeks, with constant rain combined with ninety-degree temps.
On Thursday Madeline had her last day of preschool for the year. She had such a great year and I know she will miss her teachers so much. Most of her friends live close by so I know she’ll have lots of play dates over the summer. Right before I went to drop her off on her last day, she colored all over the wall, our new carpet, and the curtain in our guest room with purple permanent marker – all in the very short time it takes me to brush my teeth! So, that is how I spent my last day of preschool.
Corey returned home from last week’s trip late on Thursday night and then we enjoyed four days as a family. It was SO nice and so very needed because we haven’t had this many days all together since he started his new job. We’re even super spoiled in that he has an office day today. He got Madeline out of her crib this morning and asked him if he was about to go on his airplane and when he said no, not today she just go so excited.
We ordered takeout on Friday and enjoyed a low key night at home. We rented Game Night and watched it outside on the porch. It was one of those silly funny movies but just what I needed after a long week!
On Saturday, we took a long family walk, ran a few errands, picked Madeline up an extra carseat during the Babies R Us liquidation sale, and then headed to our neighborhood pool after nap. She wasn’t big enough for a puddle jumper last year so she was so excited to be able to wear one this year and just kept saying how she was swimming and kicking by herself.
When we got home, she ate a quick dinner before bath and bed time and then Corey cooked this amazing meal for us. I made the greek orzo salad using this recipe and it is one of our summer favorites. Its usually a crowd pleaser when entertaining, too.
On Sunday we met Corey’s mom for brunch at a Charlotte staple that is about to close forever. We sat outside and enjoyed eggs Benedict, Nutella French toast, crepes, and lots of other French goodies including creme brûlée and macarons for dessert.
Then it poured down rain while Madeline napped and cleared up just in time to head back to the pool when she woke up. She had another great time and was exhausted by the time we got home. She slept so well all weekend long after all that swimming.
We had planned to go to our neighborhood cookout and the Memorial Day party at our country club on either side of nap time yesterday but it monsooned all day long and both were cancelled. I slipped out for an extra barre class while Madeline and Corey ran a few errands in the morning and then we enjoyed some play time in the play room and on the porch for the rest of the day. It wasn’t quite what we had envisioned for the Holiday but that isn’t really what Memorial Day is about anyway and we were certainly able to give thanks for all of those who have sacrificed for our country regardless of the weather.
We grilled burgers for dinner and all went to bed blissfully early last night – so much rain made me SO tired!
I just love first day and last day comparison pictures! They tell quite the story!!-Kristen // http://www.pugsandpearls.com
Oh my gosh, the picture from this year and last year makes my heart hurt just a little! These babies just grow too fast! I'm glad you all had some much needed family time, and I'll have to try that orzo recipe out!
I can't believe how much she grew in a (school) year! Such a big girl! And that meal looks delicious!
