Last week Corey was in Manhattan for work and it happened to coincide with the weekend some of our friends would be in the city as well so I decided to fly up for the day on Friday (on points). This was my first time back in the city since we moved away SIX years ago, which I just cannot believe. It was a whirlwind of a trip but I had a great time.
I caught an early flight on Friday and once I landed I dropped my suitcase off at the hotel. It was such a weird feeling flying with just a small carry on and my purse. As a mom, I get so used to lugging everyone else’s stuff around!
Once I dropped off my suitcase, I met up with Corey and we went to Mamoun’s to grab a pita for a quick lunch. There was a Mamoun’s in Hoboken and it was just one of my favorites for a quick bite to eat so it brought back great memories of our time there. I mean if this just doesn’t look like NYC deliciousness, I don’t know what does.
Next up was a visit to Beautycounter’s retail store in Nolita. Did you know that Beautycounter has several retail locations? This is one of my favorite things about our company because customers can shop through a consultant, online without one, or in store. If you ever happen to visit and stop by our store, I would love if you could tell them I sent you.
After a little chatting and shopping (it was the Friends + Family sale after all!), Corey and I walked around for a bit then stopped to sit outside and share a pitcher of sangria. Why not?
One of our favorite things from our time there was eating outside and people watching as people walked by on the sidewalk. Just as we were about to leave, it started pouring so we ducked inside for another cocktail at the bar. I was then reminded of something I did not like about living here – having to carry an umbrella when the forecast says there is zero chance of rain.
The storm lasted just a couple minutes and then we were off to meet up with our friends in Midtown for some drinks. Now, Midtown is my absolute least favorite part of town but we stopped at some cool places. I have no idea what bar this was but it had a beautiful Empire State Building view.
Then we went to dinner at Jongro, a Korean BBQ restaurant. I have never been to one before and it was so good. Our friends who were local took charge of ordering and their recommendations did not disappoint. Everything was amazing!
After dinner, we hopped on the train to get out of Midtown and get some drinks at some more low-key places and just chat and catch up. Then, we stopped for a slice of pizza at the end of the night – not because we were actually hungry but just because we hadn’t had any since we got there and it is a must when in the city.
We woke up early the next morning and then headed home to our little ones. It was such a quick trip and I wish we had been able to spend more time there and visit more of our favorite places and restaurants. I would’ve even loved to hop on the train to Hoboken and spend a few hours but by the time we arrived back home, we only had a few hours to prepare to host family at our home. It was a whirlwind but such a fun time visiting our old “home” and catching up with friends.
