Good morning, friends.
When it feels like you are living a real life Groundhog Day and every day is exactly the same…but with nowhere to go and nothing exciting to do, it can be so hard to find anything worth sharing in this little space. But, my hiatus is over and I am planning to get back to business as usual.
Here in North Carolina life is certainly not back to normal. Some businesses and restaurants are open with limited capacity but all those places you frequent as a mama of two little ones – our gym, ballet class, music class, parks, kids play areas are all still closed.
I know that is for our protection but it sure is hard as a mom to lose so much of your tribe and community and watch your kids miss out on so much. Coupled with the civil unrest right now, my heart has just been hurting and I’ve found myself longing for a sense of peace and routine. We have so much to pray for and to work for right now.
This time at home has been nice for us in many ways, too, and I don’t want to overlook those by focusing on the ways that this time has been challenging. After watching Corey pack a suitcase to leave for the week forĀ six years it has been so nice to have him home. Of course, its also a bit of an adjustment but in a good way!
I also feel like I’ve developed a new level of patience by just slowing everything down. Not to say that I don’t lose mine quite a bit still but it is certainly an improvement by having less places to go and no specific time to be there.
I have been honing some of my talents during this season of having so much time at home. Mixology, gardening, and baking from scratch have been some of my projects right now. I’ve also done things like hem curtains in my house that I’ve embarrassingly had safety pinned for years now and reorganized all of our closets.
Of course we always have some kind of home project in the works and this time did not slow us down. In addition to planting many, many plants we replaced all the windows in our house. This was a painful investment to make but it has made such a difference in so many ways. We also made a big change to the curb appeal by replacing our front door, which was in absolutely terrible shape, while we were at it. I love a good before and after so stay tuned for one coming, soon.
We have also enjoyed lots of time outside playing in the yard, working in the garden, relaxing on the porch, and splashing in our neighborhood pool. I’m so thankful that they were able to open.
I have lots of things to share coming soon. I hope you all are healthy and well.
I know exactly what you mean Elizabeth! It really has been a double edged sword – slowing down, family time but by gosh you really do realise over time what we are missing socially. Even now here with the first day of (some) bars, cafes etc re-opening so many people are not going out. Some friends and family of mine who work in the NHS are still ‘sheilding’ and I really miss them. I don’t know about you but I am craving noise, bustle – maybe going to a concert or a bar or crazy restaurant, dressing up to go out etc! Fingers crossed things will get better soon x
